Jokes #24

(Don't) Do What Now?!

From 2004-2005, I was extremely busy, mostly with pointless work. As a result, I got to talk very little with my family (even my own parents!)--except with my dad about schoolwork.

As a result, I had almost no Malayalam practice the entire year. And finally, when all my finals were over, my dad encouraged me to try speak Malayalam again. To my horror, I found that I seemed to be stammering as I spoke my first language, the language I had once lost and then struggled to regain for several years.

In a well-wishing effort to help me out, my dad suggested (in Malayalam, of course!) that we simply talk in Malayalam all the time. But he has suggested this many times, and every time he does, I am skeptical because I know he will soon feel a need to speak to me in English instead of Malayalam for some reason or other, and then I stop speaking to him in Malayalam, too!

But he insisted that we should do that. So I wanted to tell him not to forget.

Unfortunately, in my confusion of Malayalam words, instead of saying A (/marrakkallE/, or "Don't forget!"),

I accidentally said A (/marikkaruthE/, "Dont die!!!").

Note: When I first wrote this joke, instead of writing A /marrakkallE/ ("don't forget"), I again made a mistake and wrote A /marrikkallE/, which means "don't topple over"!!!
