Jokes #26

Hulchul

Hindi is a language that almost all Indians must learn in school, by law (unless they already speak it...or they come from Tamil Nadu!). But in South India, it isn't taught very well, and so my parents (like many other South Indians) forgot some of the language. So, recently (i.e. May 2005), my parents decided to improve their Hindi by renting several Hindi movies with subtitles.

Among the first few movies we rented was a comedy called Hulchul (I forget what that word means; I think it has something to do with muddling confusion). Unfortunately, we didn't like it that much.

What was really strange about this movie was that it had a LOT more pointless fighting than we had ever seen in any other Hindi movie! So we were wondering, "Why is there so much fighting in this movie?"

Then we found out why the movie was so horrible.

It was based on a Malayalam comedy! (Malayalam comedies always have fighting; there's even a "director of fighting"!)

Also: I notice that Malayalam comedies are always stupid and with too much fighting, but tragedies in Malayalam (e.g. Chemmeen and various other movies whose names I don't remember) can be pretty good! I think this is because we Malayalees usually leave such sad lives that we feel disgusted to see anybody happy. In the middle of a comedy, we have to spoil everyone's joy with lots of violence!!
