Jokes #29

The Odd March

In the old days, before Independence, Kerala was divided into three kingdoms: Travancore (Southern Kerala), Kochi (Central Kerala), and Malabar (Northern Kerala).

One of the kings (of Travancore?), who lived during the Victorian era, is said to have solved an embarrassing dilemma in a very strange way.

Queen Victoria was to visit his kingdom, but unfortunately...his soldiers did not know how to march properly! They could not understand orders of "left, right!"

So the king had every soldier outfitted with a palm leaf on the left foot and a piece of cloth on the right foot.

Then the general would simply yell: "Olakkaal, Siilakkaal!" (Palm-leaf foot, piece-of-cloth foot!).
