Jokes #30

The Trouble with the Internet

I happen to be very interested in foreign languages, and I try my hardest to get resources to learn any language I happen to encounter.

Once, when I was very young, I happened to learn about a language called Uighur.

(Note for the Uninformed: Uighur is the name for a particular language spoken quite widely in Xinjiang in northwestern China.)

Unfortunately, at that time, the Internet was not quite as developed as it is now, and it was extremely hard to find any useful website for actually learning Uighur online. This fact disappointed me a bit.

Around that time, I was asked in school what I liked about the Internet and what I disliked. This is what I said:

"I like the Internet because you can learn so many foreign languages...but I don't like it because sometimes the Uighur you're looking for is not there!"

(Many years later, I actually did find a useful website for learning Uighur. From that website, I found out that "Uighur" is simply another name for Uzbek, the main official language of Uzbekistan!)
